OK... Now the information I'm going to share with you is about a present I got from my cousin when I was a third grader. I still remember that precious gift as if he had given it to me just yesterday.

You know, back in the late 1990s, I was still a boy... a nine-year-old, actually. At that time, life was very beautiful though, of course, a little hard due to the lack of nearly everything. No colour TV, little power supply, no computer, no Internet, etc. To most students at that time, getting a novel to read in their leisure time was a luxury. You know, one day I took part in a story-telling competition organized in my school, and I got second prize. After hearing the great news, my cousin, who I considered to be my big brother, immediately rushed to an old bookshop in the market near my home and bought me a three-volume novel called "Three Kingdoms". When I received the novel from him, I felt like the whole world collapsed in front of me. It was incredible! Like most of my friends those days, I was a bookworm, and a three-volume novel like that was unbelievably surprising. It was amazing. Astonishing. Shocking. Actually, no words could describe my feelings at that moment. I was so overwhelmed that I forgot to say thank-you to him... Well, to tell the truth, in my culture, it's quite common for people not to directly say thank-you to others, especially to their family members. We the Vietnamese find it a little weird to say thank-you to close relatives, but we do use other means, like a look of gratitude, a smile of gratitude, etc.

That beautiful memory is still fresh in my mind. That cousin of mine passed away in a tragic accident in 2000, but his gift is what I'll always keep with me as long as I'm still alive.
